All Maine voters will be asked to give your opinion on seven important questions on the November 3 ballot. The result of the vote on each of these seven questions will have a tremendous impact on the lives of many thousands of Mainers, including your friends, neighbors, family members and of course yourself.
Often these important questions are decided by just a small handful of ballots so it is important that you take the time to find out what these questions are and how they will effect you, and then make your opinion count by going to the polls and voting. In off-year elections like this one voter participation is usually very low which means that every vote cast counts double, triple or more. Now is the time to make a difference, to be the WE in YES WE CAN! Three of the seven questions are of particular importance because they deal directly with the very issues of fairness and good governance that were some of the central pillars of the Obama campaign. Our new leaders in Washington are working hard to do their part to change America, now we have to help by casting the right votes for Maine. These three important questions are... QUESTION 1: The vote to continue discriminating against some Americans because of their sexual orientation. The Same-Sex law that passed last year and was signed by the Governor promised to end the long standing discriminatory practice that prevented gay and lesbian people, fully 10% of the population from enjoying the same legal protections and social benefits of marriage that all other Americans do. WE MUST VOTE NO ON QUESTION 1. QUESTION 2: This asks to cut the excise tax on new fuel-efficient vehicles. Do not be fooled by this. The Greens and other progressives around the state are urging a NO vote because it is an attempt to starve government. Most Mainers and towns wil not benefit from this. There are better ways to encourage buying green vehicles. WE MUST VOTE NO ON QUESTION 2.
QUESTION 4: Tabor Revisited. This has been defeated by Mainers before and rightly so. Tabor ties the hands of our state officials by linking increases in government spending to inflation and population increases. If this vote were to pass it would only make tough times tougher. We need to allow our state leaders to do the jobs they were elected to do without burdening them with caps, limits, indexes, and endless special elections. WE MUST VOTE NO ON QUESTION 4 The remaining questions are important too and you should study them carefully and vote your conscience.
QUESTION 3 asks to repeal the school district consolodation law and restore the old laws. The new law has saved money for some districts and created nightmares for others. Tough call.
QUESTION 5 asks if we should deny sick people access to a medicine that their doctors have prescribed for them simply because other people abuse it? Medical Marijuana helps far more than it harms and no one should go to jail for following their doctor's advice. I am voting YES on five.
QUESTIONS 6 & 7 are a group of bond issues that will provide money to fund important state programs, and an election issue that is intended to increase access to the democratic process. They probably both deserve our support.

No on One Needs Your Help |
|
Friday, 30 October 2009 |
Help the No on One Campaign - Protecting Maine EqualityThe energetic and highly organized No on One Campaign is making its final push this weekend to get out the vote. There will be staging locations for canvassing identified supporters in York, Eliot , Ogunquit, Kennebunk, Biddeford and Sanford.
Please consider taking off Election Day and volunteering. That will be our last shot at GOTV, and our teams are not big enough yet. If we win, this will be the first time in history marriage equality passes at the ballot box. The odds are against us (we have lost in 33 other states), and the opposition's fear tactics are stealing votes every day. We need you: we can only win if EVERY supporter pitches in to save marriage equality in Maine. Protect equality in Maine by volunteering from a staging location in your area. The two in ours is the York Harbor Inn and the Eliot Congregational Church on Main Street in Eliot. SIGN UP You can go to www.protectmaineequality.org and sign up there OR for the Seacoast area, you can email or call me at 603-491-8002, or Kelechi at 207-347-0393. We can put you right into the schedule. Success is within our grasp if we all give some of our time and jump into action during these final days. You can also go directly to the campaign's GOTV headquarters in the ballroom at the York Harbor Inn starting Friday and offer to help out in person when you have some time.
This is what the campaign is asking for: Door-Door Canvassers in every town Friday thru Tuesday, Election Day. The volunteer shifts will be starting at 9 am,12 noon, and 3 pm from the local staging locations. The most important days are Saturday and Tuesday. Bring a friend or join the group in your area and help push the NO votes over the top! |

Support Your Local Candidates In 2008 |
|
Monday, 03 March 2008 |
Many of these candidates are running as clean elections candidates. In order to qualify for public financing these candidates must collect a number of $5 qualifying contributions from registered voters in their district (Ds, Us or Rs) in the next month. This year the ethics commission has created a way for supporters to make those qualifying contributions on line. Won’t you please take a few minutes to show your support for our terrific candidates by going to http://www.maine.gov/online/ethics/cleanelection and making a contribution for the democratic State Senate and House candidate in your district? Just put in your street address and all the eligible candidates from your district are then listed for you. The candidates in our towns are listed below:
| Mark Eves has announced his candidacy to run for State Representative, house district 146, which covers all of North Berwick and two-thirds of South Berwick. Mark is a smart, compassionate voice for Mainers. Mark's priorities include: access to affordable healthcare; revitalizing our educational system; and generating investment in renewable energy to help our economy and our environment. He is running against Bonnie Gould. Your can learn more about Mark at markeves.org |
Please let your friends and neighbors know about this great opportunity to help local democrats. If you have any questions or would like to volunteer to help with your local campaign please contact
